Mickey's MUSIC MOTIVATES

Louisiana-born GRAMMY Music Educator & Encourager Mickey Smith Jr. mesmerizes audiences across North America with his music mastery.

Sax In the City and Simply Sax are both live musical performance options provided by GRAMMY Music Educator & Encourager Mickey Smith Jr. 

Simply Sax is a performance option Mickey provides that consist of just him or a scaled down version of his band. This option is perfect for clients who may be on a more limited budget or may not have the venue or event large enough for the full Sax In the City Experience that Mickey also offers. 

The Sax In the City Experience consist of Mickey's family of four at its core. Sax In the City is more than a band. It is an experience. The Smith family is made up by GRAMMY Music Educator Award Recipient Mickey Smith Jr., his wife Eugenia, and their two children Mikayla and William. 

Mickey and Eugenia are talented and accomplished musicians in their own right. This husband and wife package has performed with the likes of Michael McDonald, Wendy Moten, Gloria Gaynor, and more just to name a few.

Mikayla a rising young talent in the jazz world, was selected as one of the top 40 vocalists from across the United States to participate in the prestigious Songbook Academy.  Later that same year, she was named the Young Artist Award Winner 2022-2023 from The Society for the Preservation of the Great American Songbook.  Mikayla has also been recognized in Downbeat Magazine, an American music magazine,  and awarded a Student Music Award for the 46th Annual High School Outstanding Performance as a Vocal Jazz Soloist.  Mikayla has worked alongside jazz legends like Michael Feinstein, John Pizzarelli, Nicole Henry, and Wycliffe Gordon just to name a few. She is currently studying at Palm Beach Atlantic where she is majoring in Vocal Performance. 

William is the youngest of the Smith family. Though only played trumpet for two years, William has since performed across Florida, Louisiana, and New York City to thousands of music lovers. William's trumpet playing has been recognized by Broadway World critic Stephen Sorokoff. Recently William was selected as The Future Looks Bright in Jazz Star Award winner by the Palm Beach International Jazz Festival. He is currently a student at The King's Academy. 

Together this family and their band of students and friends are the dynamic combination of Contemporary Louisiana Jazz & Soul that makes the Sax In the City Experience an experience like non other. The Sax In the City Experience transcends the traditional jazz category by bringing the artform to a new generation of music lovers with a motivational mixture of music and message that helps audiences everywhere KEEP ON GOING & SEE THE SOUND. 

When asked why the name Sax In the City, Mickey explained that it is more than his sax, Smith said:

“I think jazz is powerful because it is both pliable & personal. It can be all things to all people. There’s not too many concerts you can go to where the audience looks like the entire community. That’s why I call it the Sax In the City Experience.”
