WELCOME 

Mickey Smith Jr. is one of the most dynamic musicians and educators  today.  A recipient of numerous awards Mickey's work and music has been recognized by various  Band Director’s Associations, Phi Beta Mu and the The Recording Academy (The GRAMMY Foundation). As a saxophonist, speaker,  and author, his music and message embodies a level of expression that resonate with ensembles and audiences alike.  His message and music has been appreciated around the world.  Mickey regularly performs and speaks to students, teachers, and conventions across the country.  Mickey's classroom serves not only the students of Maplewood Middle School but it also serves as an instructional lab for education majors at McNeese State University. Mickey's work in the community with music is helping countless individuals keep on going to discover their sound (their unique personal-significance). 

Mickey’s schedule includes many appearances as  speaker, saxophonist, and educational thought specialist  for National, State and Regional organizations.   He also frequently appears as a Education clinician, and has presented sessions and seminars at numerous colleges and universities as well as state and national conferences.  He has served as a conductor and clinician for numerous music events throughout the United States and has been named a national finalist for The GRAMMY Foundation's Music Educator Award.  Mickey  is currently Director of  Bands at Maplewood Middle School in Southwest Louisiana.
